Guangxi Normal University (GXNU) is a key provincial university located in the historical tourist city of Guilin.

It is co-funded by the Guangxi Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.

Thanks to its grand history, beautiful campuses, modern teaching methods, advanced teaching philosophy, as well as its emphasis on the Spirit of respecting teachers, pursuing justice, enjoying working and advocating cooperation, the university has grown into a nationally renowned comprehensive university, featuring distinctive teacher education, well-developed basic science and arts disciplines, and active international exchanges.

International Development of GXNU

GXNU has established cooperative and exchange relations with over 200 universities and institutions of higher learning in more than 40 countries and regions.

The University also has the authority to receive international students under the “Chinese Government Scholarship” awarded by China’s Ministry of Education, the “Confucius Institute Scholarship” by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Han Ban), and the “ASEAN Scholarship” by Guangxi Provincial Government.

The University has established 3 Confucius Institutes through partnership with the Prince of Songkla University in Thailand, the Malang National University in Indonesia, and the Hanoi University in Vietnam respectively.

In the past 10 years, more than 15,000 international students have studied at GXNU for various programmes. Degrees on offer for international students have been expanded to include BA, MA and PhD studies, while the subjects have been extended from Chinese language and culture to tourism management, economics, law, computer science, physical education, design, music, education, environmentalism, politics, foreign languages, and more.

Academic Strength

GXNU aims to develop into a high-level university in China featured in teacher education with international reputation.

According to ESI, Chemistry and Engineering are among the top 1% globally.

In the national academic assessment, out of the ten major disciplines offered at GXNU, six are rated as top 40% in China (Education, Chinese Language and Literature, Chemistry, Software Engineering, Marxist Theory and Fine Arts).

In the first scheme of developing first-class disciplines in Guangxi, five disciplines at GXNU were recognised as projects for first-class development at the provincial level (Education, Chemistry and Marxist Theory).
